Once Upon a Void Deck

This December, the nativity story gets a local retelling — set not in Bethlehem, but in the most Singaporean of spaces: the void deck.

Eternal Life Assembly proudly presents, Once Upon A Void Deck, an original play written by Dwayne Lau, a professional in the arts and creative industry.

Once Upon A Void Deck is a heartfelt, theatrical retelling of the Christmas story through familiar faces: the garang guni man making his rounds, uncles playing chess by the lift lobby, aunties line-dancing at the estate’s pavilion. But through the eyes of three children, the ordinary void deck life, transforms into something, exciting and special. It’s a story about finding hope and goodness in the everyday, told with warmth, humour, and a distinctly local heart.

Whether you grew up in a flat like this or are discovering the void deck for the first time, this production invites you to see the familiar anew — and maybe find a little wonder in the space between the pillars.
