Word of the Month May 2024

Since the beginning of 2024, I have conducted or attended 10 funeral wakes. The deceased were of different ages and gender. Neil Gaiman, an English writer says, “Everybody is going to be dead one day, just give them time.” It is a hard fact to accept for most people. That is why Psalm 90:12 is powerful. “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Number our days, not as a dreadful act. It is an act of wisdom because life is limited. Life is short. The Bible exhorts, “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 3:15-16). We must live wisely and not waste the time we have on earth.

Someone says, “The measure of life is not its duration, but its donation.” In other words, it is not how long we live. It is the contribution and impact we make to people’s lives that count the most.

I am numbering my days (not many left) and learning to make better choices. How about you?
