“Why ‘Quarrels during Chinese New Year’ became the top-searched topic in China.” (ST, 18 Feb, 2024)

A son’s visit to his family led to a serious fallout with the parents. It saddens my heart that a happy reunion became a breakup. I also discovered that many people, including believers, harbor anger and unforgiveness towards family and friends.

The Bible tells us that “hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger” belong to our sinful nature. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit produces in us “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Which do we prefer? The sinful nature or the Spirit? The answer is obvious.

The Bible shows us the way to turn our anger into love. First, we look to Christ Jesus who died for our sins. He freely forgives sinners like us. Then we follow the Holy Spirit when He convicts us. He will give us the grace to forgive and produce the love we all need.
